Exercise Your Dog

Schedule Walk
You should exercise your dog in between 30 minutes to 2 hours every day.  If you fail to exercise your dog enough it could lead to a number of mental and physical health problems.

No matter your dog's breed, you should be able to feel all of your dog's ribs without a thick layer of fat over them. Your dog's chest should also be wider than his abdomen, with a noticeable tuck-up from chest to stomach. An overweight dog will generally have no waist and no distinction between chest and stomach no matter what the breed is.

The Association for Pet Obesity Prevention
finds that 56 percent of dogs are overweight or obese. That equates to 50 million dogs that are too heavy, based on 2018-19 pet population projections provided by the American Pet Products Association (APPA).

When you exercise your dog it keeps your dog mentally and physically healthy and limber.  If you are having behavior problems such as barking, chewing, digging, excessive licking and other anxiety related behaviors with your dog it is most likely from a lack of exercise.  Lets be honest, we could all use a little more exercise.

Take a Hike!

A hike is a great way to exercise your dog.  However if your pup is not used to long hikes. it could be too much for him or her.  If your dog's paw pads aren't used to walking on rocks it could hurt your pup.    A hike is something you would need to build up to.  A walk is a great start to exercising your pup!

Visit Dog Parks

Dog parks are a great way to exercise your dog!  Dog parks are vital to your dog's routine.  Exercise can play a very important roll in your dog's behavior, mental health and physical well being.  Just like Hoomans dogs need to socialize.  When you are bringing your pups to a dog park they are learning how to resolve conflicts, social manners, play behaviors and how to become calmer during unexpected occurrences.

Less Treats!

No one wants to cut back on snacks not even you.  Unfortunately for both dogs and hoomans a well balanced diet is an essential part of a physical fitness.  We are not saying to cut the treats out entirely that would would be pure evil however it is important to ration your pup's treat intake.

Take a Walk!

Determining how often you should walk and exercise your dog depends on several factors.  Your dog's age, breed, energy level and of course it depends on the amount of time you have to walk your dog.  That is where Hooman On Demand can help! A good rule of thumb to follow when deciding how often you should walk your dog is to make sure your dog gets from 3 - 4 15 minute walks per day.
